Don't blame your budget!

Your budget is not the problem... what or who you decide to spend it on is!

Hello,

This is Charlotte creator of the Media Maven Series; A unique series where I share my personal and professional expertise, tips, secrets and techniques for creating content for television, film and or the web.  Like you, I'm always busy creating and on the go. Therefore, I will respect your time and keep it short and to the point. We entrepreneurs don't take days off... we take hours off.

I consult small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs and companies on a regular basis and run a video production company at the same time. What I will share with you in my blogs are some of the most common complaints from my clients. Issues that I end up figuring out and resolving quickly, effectively and inexpensively.

The Story: Client wonders why their independent online series wasn't taken seriously with mainstream media. Their show title and idea relied heavily on the appearance of the cast. Beauty was basically a character. When I asked to see their promotional materials, the first thing I noticed was the poor hair and make up job. Client spent all the money on filming the pilot.  They asked the cast to do their own hair and make up. The first rule of thumb when pitching an idea is give them some eye candy. If it doesn't look good, most assume it is not good and won't bother to give up their precious time to review.

My Tip: Craigslist! Free post in gigs. Make up artist and hair stylist needed! Please share your work via a few photos. Before you protest that you can not afford to hire anyone... trust me,  you can not afford not to seek the help of professionals. Also please know that due to the economy, freelancers are always looking for work. No matter your budget (just have a budget) someone will accept your offer. If your project has a cast that is supposed to exemplify beauty then at the bare minimum have professional make up and hair. Even if you're shooting with an Iphone, if everyone looks great it will get noticed.

Get it done right the first time no matter the budget or obstacle! - Charlotte
