Respect Thy Consultant!

Your New Year's resolution for 2015... Respect Thy Consultant!

This is Charlotte your marketing, branding and creative consultant. The holidays are among us and many of you are contemplating your new New Years resolutions for 2015. I want to implore you to add the following resolution to your list Respect Thy Consultant.

A consultant is an expert or a professional who provides advice in a specific field and has a wide knowledge of the subject matter. The overall impact of a consultant is that clients have access to deeper levels of expertise than would be feasible for them to retain on their own or in-house, and may purchase only as much service from the consultant as desired.

It is with this understanding that before you can truly respect any consultant, you must first respect your dream and your goal. A new year is approaching and maybe this is the year you feel ready to embark on your new path. You are ready but you don't know where or how to start. You acknowledge that you don't have the time or the desire to do some of the necessary legwork. You admit the need for a professional with real experience and proven success. The good news, there is a perfect consultant ready and willing to help you achieve your dream.

Please understand the difference between thinking you are ready and knowing that you are ready before you seek a consultant. If you respect yourself, your dream and your goal... you are ready to invest. Invest time and money. Your budget represents the faith that you have in your ability to achieve your goal.  If you want to spend twenty dollars than your dream is only worth twenty dollars and you should expect such results. Now, if you want free, no problem... do it yourself. Trust me you can do it, that is how most consultants became experts. Free equals DIY and if you research, put in the hard work and time your dream can and will come true.

Time and money most would say they don't have a lot of it. I've come to learn that people spend their time and money on the things they really want. The want of a new pair of shoes, second round at happy hour, weekend getaways with a friend or that new IPhone 6 or the 6 plus! Yet, when it comes to paying a consultant for their services... the want dissipate.  Only you still want help, you want advice and you want to become successful as a result.

Please respect thy consultant. Consultants love to help others it's their nature and the main reason they tend to over deliver.  Consultants are professionals who have put in the time, the dedication, the money, the hard work and years of research to become the experts that they are. That is the reason consultants only want to work with individuals that truly respect themselves, their dreams and their goals.  You are not doing a Consultant a favor by paying them their fee. If you have this mindset please do all Consultants a favor and do it yourself. Respect Thy Consultant!

TOP DON'Ts:
  • Do not ask for a discount. That's like saying I only want to fulfill half my dream.
  • Do not share the rates of other consultants.  If their rates are better please go to them.
  • Do not ask for free advice because you have bills. Really? So disrespectful!
TOP DO's:
  • Do believe in yourself, your dream and your goal.
  • Do save up and build a real investment budget to DIY or hire the perfect consultant.
  • Do make time for the hard work that is ahead of you.

The Power of the Recharge!

This is Charlotte your marketing, branding and creative consultant. I absolutely love what I do for a living and have decided to share some of my personal and professional tips, secrets and advice with you - the entrepreneur, small business owner and artist. WHY? Because we all can use a little help from time to time.

Why me? Well... why not?! I have won some of the highest awards in television and advertising.  My avant-garde approach to business led to my fair share of media and press accolades from The New York Times, The Tyra Banks Show to an induction to the Museum of Modern Arts (MOMA). I wrote a novel that got published by Doubleday and I have produced my own celebrity talk show that aired on a national cable network for three years. It is safe to say that I have real hands on experience in several industries.

Not to mention this blog is absolutely FREE! You have nothing to lose and if all goes well you will learn something new and have everything to gained.

My goal: To help as many creatives as possible! The world would be a boring place without imagination and creativity. As a creative and human being I am doing my part and paying if forward.

With that said... Let's GO!

My last blog post was in August and I have a real good reason for the delay. My BATTERY was dying and I am not talking about my smart phone either. I am talking about my creative soul. As an entrepreneur the highs and lows can wear you down. Learning how to roll with the punches is easier said than done. You have bills to pay, unfulfilled dreams, unfinished projects and lots of people watching and judging your every move including yourself. So what do you do? You keep at it and often times you try to work even harder.

I was at my wits end and could not create properly as I was performing on fumes. This lead me to a three month hiatus. I took some time to visit family and the mother land (South Africa). If you are suffering from stress, creative block or procrastination... no worries there is a cure for that.

My advice: Shut it down and recharge! When that red light flashes on our cell phone we immediately search for the charger and plug it into an electrical source. We all know why we do this. If we do not charge our smart phone we are unable to communicate with the outside world. No incoming or outgoing phone calls, no playing of music, or enjoying a viral Youtube video! Not charging translates to not working. If recharging is good enough for our smart phones then why not recharge ourselves?

My tip: Tap into your inner peace. There are several ways to do this;
  • Turn off your cell phone, computer, TV and any other devices that distracts you. Meditate for 2 hours.
  • Take a mini vacation by yourself! (3 day boat cruise)
  • Travel outside of the county for three months (some of us need a full recharge!)
The Goal: Allow yourself permission to reboot your mind, body and soul. Imagine the great works that you will create with a restart.

Gods speed and please... keep creating!

Stop begging and start impressing!

This is Charlotte your marketing, branding and creative consultant. I absolutely love what I do for a living and have decided to share some of my personal and professional tips, secrets and advice with you - the entrepreneur, small business owner or artist.

I consult small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs and companies on a regular basis and run a video production company at the same time. What I will share with you in my blogs are some of the most common complaints and issues that I end up figuring out and resolving quickly, effectively and inexpensively.

I hope you are enlightened and entertained!

The Issue: If you are on Facebook or Twitter or any social media platform you have seen someone asking for a donation. YES, we all need support with our careers, projects, bills and unexpected emergencies. In fact, that is one of the main reasons crowd-funding platforms were created. To help others.

The Problem: Too many people are abusing these platforms by simply begging. I use the word begging when folks ask for money without offering something in return.

The TIP: To give is to receive. You've heard it a million times before and the reason is... because it's true. Why do you think Kickstarter is the #1 platform? The perks! Okay, I know you may be thinking well, if I had something to offer I wouldn't be asking for help in the first place. That is not true. If you are a human being you have something to offer. Get creative! Ask what can you do for them? If you are asking for rent money then offer to cut grass or shovel snow for those that give. If you are asking for money to support an unexpected tragedy (yes even then) offer to showcase the names of each donor on the card, obituary or create a special (smart phone) "thank you" video and post it on Facebook. Dramatic yes, but you get my point.

The truth is... if you have the time to create a donation page, then you have time to think of a creative way to give in order for you to receive.

If you simply can not figure out what you have to offer... contact me and we'll figure it out together.

Winners invest and do the work!

Happy 4th of July!

Today we celebrate independence in America but I want to talk about another form of independence. Believing in yourself and in your brand. Yes, you have read this before but I am here to tell you that good faith without work leads to no success.

Every great person in history worked very hard and invested plenty in themselves, their dreams and in their project.

New York State of Mind Advice: If you have a great idea but you are too lazy to put in the work... hire someone who is qualified to do the work for you. You get what you put into it. If you put $0 dollars then expect $0.00 results!

There is no such thing as receiving something (good) for nothing.

Now ask yourself - how badly do I really want to succeed?

Let's go!

$20 Marketing & Branding Tip

Hello,

This is Charlotte your marketing, branding and creative consultant.  I personally love creating content for television, advertising and web. In doing so, I end up helping clients out on marketing and branding their content. I absolutely love what I do for a living and have decided to share some of my personal and professional tips, secrets and advice with you - the entrepreneur, small business owner or artist.

I consult small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs and companies on a regular basis and run a video production company at the same time. What I will share with you in my blogs are some of the most common complaints I hear all of the time. Issues that I end up figuring out and resolving quickly, effectively and inexpensively.

The client: "I don't have enough money for marketing because I've spent it all on creating the product, but I really need your help!"

The problem: All of us love what we've created and we are willing to spend lots of money making sure it's picture perfect. A lot of times it's ego driven. We want the bells and whistles and the big store front. We open the doors up for business and wonder why no one is walking in. One of the main reasons no one is walking in or buying... is because they don't know where your store is located in the first place. They can't buy what they don't know is out there.

The solution:  Marketing and Branding is key to success. When you think of your budget please put "Marketing/Branding" at the top of your list. Don't be cheap when it comes to this line item either. You wouldn't dress a beautiful person up in a trash bag... right? Same goes for your product, brand or business. Hire someone like myself - a very creative person who knows how to execute and get your message out to your targeted audience no matter the budget!

Product Launch TIP: This tip is for anyone with a website and one great product. Vista Print business cards! Place your product on one side and the web address on the other, that's it! Keep a stack of cards on you at all times. The next time someone says "Do you have a business card?" you hand them your "Business" card. Pretty soon people will know what you're selling and where to buy it.

$20 bucks to get the marketing & branding ball rolling.
