Your New Year's resolution for 2015... Respect Thy Consultant!
This is Charlotte your marketing, branding and creative consultant. The holidays are among us and many of you are contemplating your new New Years resolutions for 2015. I want to implore you to add the following resolution to your list Respect Thy Consultant.
A consultant is an expert or a professional who provides advice in a specific field and has a wide knowledge of the subject matter. The overall impact of a consultant is that clients have access to deeper levels of expertise than would be feasible for them to retain on their own or in-house, and may purchase only as much service from the consultant as desired.
It is with this understanding that before you can truly respect any consultant, you must first respect your dream and your goal. A new year is approaching and maybe this is the year you feel ready to embark on your new path. You are ready but you don't know where or how to start. You acknowledge that you don't have the time or the desire to do some of the necessary legwork. You admit the need for a professional with real experience and proven success. The good news, there is a perfect consultant ready and willing to help you achieve your dream.
Please understand the difference between thinking you are ready and knowing that you are ready before you seek a consultant. If you respect yourself, your dream and your goal... you are ready to invest. Invest time and money. Your budget represents the faith that you have in your ability to achieve your goal. If you want to spend twenty dollars than your dream is only worth twenty dollars and you should expect such results. Now, if you want free, no problem... do it yourself. Trust me you can do it, that is how most consultants became experts. Free equals DIY and if you research, put in the hard work and time your dream can and will come true.
Time and money most would say they don't have a lot of it. I've come to learn that people spend their time and money on the things they really want. The want of a new pair of shoes, second round at happy hour, weekend getaways with a friend or that new IPhone 6 or the 6 plus! Yet, when it comes to paying a consultant for their services... the want dissipate. Only you still want help, you want advice and you want to become successful as a result.
Please respect thy consultant. Consultants love to help others it's their nature and the main reason they tend to over deliver. Consultants are professionals who have put in the time, the dedication, the money, the hard work and years of research to become the experts that they are. That is the reason consultants only want to work with individuals that truly respect themselves, their dreams and their goals. You are not doing a Consultant a favor by paying them their fee. If you have this mindset please do all Consultants a favor and do it yourself. Respect Thy Consultant!
TOP DON'Ts:
- Do not ask for a discount. That's like saying I only want to fulfill half my dream.
- Do not share the rates of other consultants. If their rates are better please go to them.
- Do not ask for free advice because you have bills. Really? So disrespectful!
- Do believe in yourself, your dream and your goal.
- Do save up and build a real investment budget to DIY or hire the perfect consultant.
- Do make time for the hard work that is ahead of you.
